NCPA Tournament and Team Information

The NCPA hosts over 40 events a year where college and high school teams compete against each other. We pride ourselves in providing fun, competitive events where student athletes can showcase their skills while having the opportunity to get to know and work with student athletes from other schools.

The NCPA is also only paintball league with regularly televised tournaments. The College Paintball National Championships has been televised in 2005, 2006 and 2007, and wll be televised in 2008 and 2009 as well. The NCPA is the only place in paintball where talented players are guaranteed the opportunity to be televised athletes.

What tournaments are available?

The NCPA hosts two classes of play at the college level, Class AA and Class A. Most teams start playing the Class AA format, which is a traditional 5-man tournament. More established teams also play Class A, which is very similar to paintball's multi-point timed-match X-Ball format.

What is the difference between Class AA and Class A?

Basically, Class AA is geared towards newer teams and teams that demand a lot of flexibility. Class A is geared towards established programs with deep rosters who want to play a regular season schedule. Class AA provides a lot of flexibility, while Class A requires more resources and a season commitment. New teams should start with Class AA.

Jersey Requirements

The NCPA has established jersey requirements that are optional for Class AA teams and required for Class A teams. Jersey requirements allow the league to present a consistent athletic image, and encourage teams to represent their schools. Class AA teams with jerseys that meet the requirements receive an entry fee discount at the National Championships, and jerseys meeting the requirements are required for Class A teams.

Rankings

The NCPA ranks Class AA and Class A teams.

Class AA teams are ranked based on tournament performance. At each event, a team will receive a score from 100 (1st place) to 10 (last place). Teams can enter as many teams into each event as they wish, and enter as many tournaments as they wish, but only the top 4 scores for each school during the regular season will be counted. In addition, each team MUST count one score for the National Championship tournament, which is doubled.

Class A teams are ranked based on their win-loss record for all matches played during the season. The top Class A teams advance to the National Championship tournament, a single-elimination bracketed tournament which is televised nationally.
